If I’m an expert in anything, I’m an expert in change.

Over the past 15 years, I’ve made five radical life transitions, each involving a big move to a different country, each requiring that I dismantle and recreate my career. But through this experience, I discovered my true path and became an expert in navigating major life changes with ease, grace and an enlivening freedom and joy.

My initiation began while I was working for a Fortune 500 company as an executive in the Human Resources Department. I so loved working with professional people that I was certain I would always have a job in the corporate world. Then I met the man who would become my husband, and everything changed.

After we were married, his work required that we move to Dubai. I was well on my way up the corporate
ladder and headed for a big promotion, but I had to leave my job and start all over again… in Dubai. This became a pattern for us. We’d move. I’d find a great job, work hard, get close to being promoted… and we’d move again.

But when we moved to the Philippines, I stayed home to have our children and give them my full attention. I felt oddly disconnected and not sure what to do with myself without the buzz and noise of the corporate machine. So I started volunteering as a crisis-line counselor, answering phones and helping people who were struggling with life-threatening issues, from depression to addiction to suicidal thoughts.

This work brought about yet another major life change for me… except this one came from the inside out! Helping people move from despair and confusion to hope and clarity awakened my passion for working at this deep, soul level. I was good at it. I realized I had a strong intuitive sense that allowed me to know how to help in a very real, tangible way.

I started researching career options that would allow me to work with people at the core of their being, a career that would allow me to dig deep, find solutions and help people take positive action now. This is when I discovered the field of Life Coaching; it seemed like a perfect fit.

But as I started make plans and move towards my new career, I found myself face to face with my own limiting beliefs. For so many years I’d thought of myself only as someone who could work a job, be a mom and a wife… and every now and then move an entire household to the other side of the world. But now, I was making plans to start my own business, be my own boss, work with people one on one… and succeed all on my own! In order to do so, I had to let go of the old beliefs that held me in my past rather than propelled me into my future.

By this time, we’d moved again! From the Philippines to Russia. On weekends, I would travel to England in order to train at the U.K. College of Life Coaching. I took additional training in order to become an Executive Coach and work with professionals in a corporate setting. For four years, I coached executives and conducted trainings at several highly respected corporate businesses, like Shell, Danone, American Express, Standard Chartered Bank and Leo Burnett. 

I bet you can guess what happened next! That’ right. We moved. This time, to Portugal. The idea of dismantling and recreating my career (and life) yet again was less than heartening. But by this time, I knew how to make the transition with a positive perspective, a steady ease and a sense of adventure.

At the moment, I am still living in Portugal with my husband and two children, and thoroughly enjoying my work as a coach. Yes, I’ve had more than my fair share of major moves and changes, but they have all taught me that no matter what life throws my way, I can succeed and be happy doing the work I love, enjoying my wonderful family life, and living my ideal life on my own terms.
